What is a church?
The First Presbyterian Church of Titusville is a community that welcomes everyone who needs comfort, nurturing, and love.  The church is the "bride of Christ" and a physical manifestation of God's love in our community for over 150 years. We are a small church in a beautiful setting by the river -- a quiet place to worship, a place to gather strength, a place to seek God, and, if you choose, a place to interact with your neighbors.

The Presbyterian Book of Order states...

“God has put all things under the Lordship of Jesus Christ and has made Christ Head of the Church, which is his body. … The great ends of the church are the proclamation of the gospel for the salvation of humankind; the shelter, nurture, and spiritual fellowship of the children of God;  the maintenance of divine worship;  the preservation of the truth;  the promotion of social righteousness; and the exhibition of the Kingdom of Heaven to the world.”

The proclamation of the gospel

“The Church is called to be a sign in and for the world of the new reality which God has made available to people in Jesus Christ. … Sin is forgiven.  Reconciliation is accomplished.  The dividing walls of hostility are torn down. …  God who creates life, frees those in bondage, forgives sin, reconciles brokenness, makes all things new, is still at work in the world.”

As church members, we seek to minister in our local community, in hospitals, retirement homes, prisons, to the poor, and through our support of missions throughout the world.

The shelter, nurture and spiritual fellowship of the children of God

“The Church is called to be Christ’s faithful evangelist, participating in God’s activity in the world through its life for others by

a)      healing and reconciling and binding up wounds,

b)      ministering to the needs of the poor, the sick the lonely, and the powerless,

c)      engaging in the struggle to free people from sin, fear, oppression, hunger and injustice,

d)      giving itself and its substance to the service of those who suffer

e)   sharing with Christ in the establishing of his just, peaceable, and loving rule in the world.”
