Meet Reverend and Mrs. Timothy Slemmons…
Timothy Matthew Slemmons was born in Topeka, Kansas where he ran track and
cross country, and was the drum major for the marching band at Seaman High
School (’80). After receiving his bachelor’s degree from Kansas State
University (’84), he worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone as a
telecommunications manager.
In 1990, Tim left the business world,
following the Lord’s leading, to enroll at Columbia Theological Seminary,
Decatur, Georgia. As a Master of Divinity student (’95), he served as a
summer intern in a Baptist church circuit in Jamaica (’92), and again at
St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Tucker, GA (’94). He also served as a CPE
chaplain at Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital, Atlanta, GA (’94).
As an exchange student,
he studied at the University of Glasgow, Scotland (’92-’93), where he
worked with the Late Service, a contemporary worship group in Glasgow’s
west end. He has recorded two album-length demos of original contemporary
Christian music: A Soundtrack for the Close of the Age (1991), and The
Word in the Wind (2001). In addition to pastoring, preaching, and
studying the Word of God from a practical theological perspective, Tim’s
research interests are in Søren Kierkegaard (the focus of his recently
completed doctoral dissertation at Princeton Seminary), Gilbert Tennent,
and lectionary studies.
Tim met Victoria in Atlanta in 1994. They were married in February 1996,
six months after he was ordained and installed as the pastor of Central
Presbyterian Church, Tarentum, Pennsylvania (1995-2000). Victoria
originally hails from Pittsburgh. She is a graduate of Chatham College
(’86), and she worked for 17 years as a flight attendant for Delta
Airlines, a position she resigned earlier this year in order to devote her
time to Christian service in a lay capacity with a special focus on
intercessory prayer.
