How to Serve Communion Communion Schedule

Please note the dates that you have been scheduled to serve communion.  If you are unable to serve on that date, please find a replacement and notify Barbara Gumbas.

During the music (i.e. anthem, offertory) just before the actual sacrament, Elders should assemble in the Chancel.  Per the schedule the designated Elder should remove the napkins from the elements.

After the invitation and the Apostles Creed, Rev. Slemmons will cue the Elders to assemble at the Communion table.

After Rev. Slemmons has distributed the plates, all Elder should remain in place until Rev. Slemmons has been seated.  The designated Elder, who should be at the farthest left (Manse side of the Sanctuary) should then serve Rev. Slemmons.  When he/she returns, then all Elders should turn to the right (toward the Cemetery) and proceed down the aisle.  The Elder in the center should go first and proceed to the balcony.  The next 2 elders should serve from the center aisle, and the last 2 elders should fan out to the outside aisles.

When all congregants have been served, the Elders should assemble in the rear in the opposite order, and then proceed back to the communion table.

Rev. Slemmons will collect the plates, then all should return to their seats.  All Elders should remain standing until all have returned and then all sit at once.

Rev. Slemmons will then serve the Elders.

Repeat  these steps for the wine.

During the final Hymn the designated Elder should cover the elements.

The Elders should remain in the chancel and all will recess together during the final hymn.
