Introduction WHAT IS
Alpha? It
is an exciting 10-week course comprising 15 sessions—a practical
introduction to Christianity—designed to share the gospel of Jesus
Christ and the basic tenets of our faith with people who have never heard,
or who want a refresher course. Alpha
has been used successfully as a tool for outreach ministry here in
Titusville and in several nearby churches, including Lambertville
Presbyterian, St. Matthew's Episcopal in Pennington, and Washington
Crossing United Methodist in Pennsylvania. WHY IS
Alpha HERE? Our
church's top priority is the fulfillment of the Great Commission (Matthew
28:19-20). We live in a
rapidly changing community where most residents do not know Jesus Christ,
do not attend any church on a regular basis, and often form negative
opinions about Christianity and the church under the influence of a
generally hostile media. In Alpha, God has given us a great opportunity to
reach out to these people. WHO IS
Alpha FOR? Alpha is for anyone
seeking to know more about the Christian faith. At Titusville, we want to involve as many church members as
possible, either by taking the course itself, inviting others to take it,
or by joining the Alpha
team. WHAT HAPPENS
AT Alpha? Each
Tuesday people meet together for a meal, a talk on topics such as “Who
is Jesus?”, “Why Did Jesus Die?”, “How Can I be Sure of My
Faith?”, and “Does God Still Heal Today?”, followed by small group
interaction. Morning Alpha
starts with brunch at 9:30 and ends at 12:00 noon; evening Alpha begins with dinner at 6:30 and always
closes promptly at 9:00 p.m. There
is a weekend retreat midway through the course that focuses on the person
and work of the Holy Spirit. WHERE WILL
Alpha
TAKE
PLACE? All Alpha sessions are in the church’s Heritage Room
below the sanctuary except the Holy Spirit Day retreat, which will take
place offsite. DO I
REGISTER FOR THE WHOLE Alpha
COURSE, OR JUST THE SESSIONS I WANT TO TAKE?
We encourage guests to come and check out Alpha
during one or more of the first three weekly course sessions.
Guests are under no obligation to complete the course if they do
not wish. However, no new
guests can be admitted after the third week (March 25). MAY I
BE PLACED IN A SMALL GROUP WITH MY FRIEND OR SPOUSE? If possible, Alpha
team leaders honor specific requests for small group placement, but we
must ensure a balanced number of guests at each table. WHAT IF
I HAVE SPECIAL DIETARY OR CHILDCARE NEEDS?
Let us know when you register for Alpha
and we will do our best to accommodate you. HOW MUCH
DOES Alpha COST? There
is no charge to guests who take Alpha.
We take a free-will offering at dinner each week to defray meal
costs. SHOULD I
BRING ANYTHING TO Alpha?
Just yourself, a good appetite, and plenty of questions.
We provide all the meals, a course manual you may keep, Bibles, and
other Alpha
resource materials. WHAT IF
I CAN’T REGISTER FOR Alpha
THIS TIME? No problem!
We will offer the Alpha Course at least twice a year—the next one
will start in Fall 2003. Alpha meets in the church’s
Heritage Room For
